Alexey Petrovich Ermolov is a figure in Russian history, mysterious, contradictory and nevertheless legendary. From his youth, impudent and independent, Yermolov annoyed high -ranking persons. The uprising in Poland, military operations against the French in Italy, the siege of the Fortress Derbent, temporary opal, participation in the coalition war with Napoleon, the Patriotic War and, finally, the Caucasus. Ermolov began with the conquest of Chechnya and Mountain Dagestan. The rebellious villages were burned, the gardens were cut down, the cattle were stolen, the conquered peoples were reduced to the loyalty to the Russian emperor, they were subjected to tribute, they took hostages.
