From legend to literature: oral historical and epic tradition in the most ancient monuments of Slavic literature

Monograph S.V. Alekseeva and O.A. Plotnikova is devoted to the study of the most ancient monuments of Old Slavonic, Old Russian and South Slavic literature in order to identify structural elements dating back to the oral primary sources-epos, historical and historical and fatal legend. The authors analyzed the narrative forms, plots and motives in the studied body of texts characteristic of oral creativity. Based on the comparison of Russian and South Slavic material, a number of generalizing conclusions of a historical and cultural nature were made. As an application, the previously published online index of plots and motives of oral origin in the most ancient monuments of Slavic -speaking literature is included.
