The work is the publication of the manuscript diary of the sailor V.M. Ermakov, who took part in 1902-1903, during his military service in the imperial Russian fleet, in swimming as part of the team of the cruiser "Diana" from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean and along the way to record His impressions of swimming and countries whose ports entered the Russian squadron. Soon after the arrival of the cruiser, the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905 began in Port Arthur. The impressions of the first days of this war were also recorded in the diary.
