The purpose of writing scientific memoirs is to generalize in one book of many years of experience and observations of the author, which has been engaged in independent research of strategic planning and management methods for about 50 years, of which more than 40 years at the Academic Institute. Materials in the book, as far as possible, are located according to the periods of the life of the author and his ancestors. At the same time, along with a description of facts from personal and scientific life, an expert assessment by the author of the situation that has developed in the country in one or another period is given. The chapter about the Soviet school, in which the author was lucky to study at the peak of its development in 1950-1960, shows evidence that children in the post-war period were a privileged class. A story about studying at Tomsk University, at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and graduate school of the Plekhanov Institute in Moscow is supplemented by actual materials on the development of economic cybernetics, on the construction of communism, etc. In the chapter dedicated to work after graduate school in Leningrad in 1968-1973, along with a description of the defense of the candidate dissertation on optimal planning, the design of automated control systems is told. The chapter on research conducted at the Institute of Economics of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1974-1991 was given an author’s expert assessment of the achievements of the second superpower of the world, as well as the negative consequences of making incorrect decisions in the upper echelon of the authorities. The last chapter speaks of the technology of power in the USSR and the problem of preserving historical memory about the leaders of the Soviet Union, taking into account the materials published in recent decades. When describing the facts of the Soviet past, brief comparisons with modern reality are given. In more detail, the author’s position has been set out in the scientific publications of recent decades. At the end of the book, a brief list of monographs and articles of the author is given, starting since 1992
