Fridtjof Nansen was a grandiose figure, great in everything: a great polar traveler, an equally great scientist and researcher, an excellent artist and champion - a skier. Nansen could become the Nobel Prize laureate in some field of science (physiology or medicine), but he became the Nobel laureate of the world award. In the international arena, he argued that the problems of prisoners of war, starving and refugees are the problems of the entire world community. During the years, ahead of his time, Nansen even talked about armed intervention by the international organization to protect minorities in jeopardy.
It was as a peacekeeper, a humanist and a fighter for human rights that the international community noted him, and it was this part of his work for the benefit of mankind that was least known to the general public, giving way to the glory of Nansen-traveler.
In this book, the author Marit Fossa, an employee of the United Nations, talks about how Nansen performed his work of the diplomat, how many lives and fates he saved, as his authority, honesty, and openness gained confidence in the leaders of states - not for glory, Which he had and so enough, and for disinterested and selfless help to people who fell into trouble.
