The outstanding Russian commander Field Marshal Prince Ivan Fedorovich Paskevich (1782-1855) completed his long career simultaneously with the defeat of Russia in the Crimean War of 1853-1856. As the closest military adviser to Emperor Nicholas I and the key figure in the Russian military-strategic planning, he shared his responsibility with him for that lost war, which summed up the historical result of the entire Nikolaev political system. But the story never gave a clear answer to the question: did the authority of Nicholas I in Europe responded in nature with the highest strategic interests of Russia, or was it a dangerous chimera that condemned the empire to international isolation at a critical moment of the fight against the coalition of the Western powers? Was the Russian strategy in the final seven years of the reign of Emperor Nicholas I by a failure, which discredited almost all the results of the military construction of the 1830-1840s, or, on the contrary, the optimal way out of the politically and strategically hopeless situation that had developed during the Crimean war, which became the output that became possible precisely thanks to these results?
