The book is dedicated to one of the most gifted commanders of the war for the liberation of fraternal Bulgaria - Field Marshal Joseph Gurko, his military strategy and exploits. Based on the documents, a long -standing politicized untruth of the general as the royal "satrap" is convincingly refuted. Gurko left a bright mark not only in the military history of the Russian Empire, but also as a talented administrator.
This book is based on the desire to restore justice and illuminate the little-known pages of the Gurko biography related to the service in the Samara province during the peasant reform of 1861, in St. Petersburg, Odessa and, finally, in Poland. In his fate, the history of Russia, Bulgaria and Poland, glory, honor, respect in a distant Balkan country, non -identifying hatred in neighboring Poland and many years of destructive oblivion in his homeland were inextricably intertwined
