Mathieu Dumas is known to historians as a participant in the events of the French Revolution of the XVIII century. And the Napoleonic wars, his name was carved on the triumphal arch in Paris next to the names of other famous generals and marshals. He is also known as the author of multi-volume Essays on military events about the campaigns of 1799-1807.
Three -volume memoirs of Mathieu Dumas was published by his son after the death of the general, in 1839. For a single -volume publication in Russian, primarily what seems to be the most interesting and important for a wider circle of readers: youth and the beginning of military service, the dramatic events of the beginning of the revolution and the first post -revolutionary years, acquaintance with Napoleon, the transition through the snowy alps in December 1800 years, the campaign of 1812, in which Dumas participated as the general commander of the Great Army.
