The name of Dobrolyubov to this day is present in the school curriculum, the name of his article "Ray of Light in the Dark Kingdom" has become an idiom, but it itself is thoroughly forgotten. Meanwhile, in Russian literature there is no such character. Having barely crossed the threshold of the twentieth anniversary, he became the ruler of the Duma of a whole generation, and his early death was discussed in newspapers no less than the abolition of serfdom. Chernyshevsky declared him a martyr of the regime and the “head of literature ", and later wrote off the heroes of his novels about“ new people ”from him. The real Dobrolyubov was never known to the wide audience. What was his political ideal? Why did he refuse to talk about the literary merits of works in articles? Did he know, in the words of Nekrasov, to subordinate the reason for passion?
