The extensive biographical work of the historian and publicist Peter Mikhailovich Golovachev (1862–1913), dedicated to the Decembrists, was prepared for the publication before the 1905 revolution, but could not be born due to censorship obstacles and was released only in 1906. It contains the most complete iconography of the Decembrists, both very famous and much less noticeable. The main attention was paid to the history of the participation of a particular Decembrist in the 1825 uprising and fate after conviction, his life in places of imprisonment or hard labor, as well as after liberation. The book contains many little -known details.
Golovachev lives and experiences the events that he describes with touching emotionality - literally like their direct participant and contemporary, although he is separated from his beloved heroes for almost a century. Reproduced 86 portraits of the Decembrists N.S. Bestuzhev wrote in the Siberian exile
