The composition of the Italian diplomat, writer and poet Baldasser Castillo (1478–1529) “The court”, connecting the memories of the court life of the Duchy of Urbino at the beginning of the 16th century with thoughts on morality, purpose, style of the behavior of a nobleman close to the sovereign, is one of those books of the era Renaissance, which did not lose popularity over the next centuries and were loved by the most brilliant minds of their and future centuries. For the history of culture, the work of Castillone was a genuine treasury, and it is difficult to imagine how more scarce the knowledge of the descendants about the Renaissance would be, if it had not been created. Compiled in the form of a collection of entertaining and witty conversations, this brightly and naturally written work goes beyond the source of information about the court entertainment of its time and the list of advantages of a perfect courtier as a comprehensively educated and sophisticated man, ideal from the point of view of humanistic representations. Creating a “courtier” almost simultaneously with the well -known Treatise of Machiavelli “Sovereign”, Castillone demonstrates a fundamentally different approach to the question of what a real politics and a person who are performing is. Surprisingly, not a single full translation into Russian was implemented in the almost five hundred -year history of this famous book, only separate fragments were published.
