This monograph is devoted to the relationship of A.S. Pushkin and A. X. Benkendorf, which are considered exclusively on a documentary basis. The book provides their correspondence, which continued for ten years, from 1826 to 1836, and also used “extracts from the letters of the Count of Alexander Khristoforovich Benkendorf to Emperor Nicholas I about Pushkin”, “The case of the III department of his own E.I.V. Chancellery about A. S. Pushkin ”and other documents. All letters are accompanied by the necessary comments.
As a result, the atmosphere of the poet’s complex and contradictory relations with the head of the III branch is recreated in the monograph, one of the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812, and Benckendorf appears not only to the faithful servant of Emperor Nicholas I, now and then, who rendering Pushkin of various kinds Services in complex ups and downs of palace life
