About the book
Georgio Vazari (1511-1574) was a man of many talents - sculptor, painter, architect, writer, scientist, adviser to kings and pontiffs, Titian, Donatello and other great people. But most of all, Vasari is known as the first biographer that worked in the genre, which seems to have invented himself.

The genre of artistic biography has become a canon for the Italian art of the Renaissance. Vasari in art was more appreciated by technical skills and artists were perceived more like decorators and masters. It is difficult to believe, but precisely thanks to the works of Vasari, creators such as Rafael, Leonardo or Michelangelo appeared before the descendants as people of art. Now their creative giftedness is called a divine gift, their reputation still has a deep effect on Western culture. And we can safely say that they created their images for centuries by Georgio Vazari.

In this book, Ingrid Rowland and Noah Charni tells the exciting story about Vasari as a key figure in the history of art and immerse readers in the culture created by papal Rome and Medici from Florence. The intrigues, intricacies, rivalry of the greatest creators of Europe of the Renaissance era ... This bright biography is read in one breath - as a work of art, but gives knowledge more than another textbook on the history of art.

From the authors
In 1550, half a century after Leonardo stopped working on the Battle of Angiari, Georgio Vazari published the first edition of his "biographies of the most famous painters, sculptors and architects" (often you can find the name "Biographies of painters" or Just "biographies" for brevity) The book is the biographies of the main artists of the Renaissance collected together, many of which Vasari knew personally.

Vasari biographies cover three centuries of Italy’s life, plus individual trips to its limits. They stretch both in breadth and deeper. However, their movement outlines the movement of the Renaissance itself from the uncouth energy of the beginning of the fourteenth century to the sophisticated professionalism of the sixteenth. The life story of each of the artists is a small story of personal growth within a large course of the development of painting. Where this is possible, Vasari gives examples of the works of each of the artists as arguments to his own, currently chronological order.

Since its publication of "biographies" have become the cornerstone of our approach to the history of art. They are read by students of European art history courses around the world, and, of course, they are the main source for those who listen to courses about the art and philosophy of the Renaissance. But the "biographies" left an indelible mark on how we define and analyze art today. Their influence did not weaken for five centuries. They became not only a starting point for all subsequent authors who write about art. The book outlined the approaches of the public to various artists. The way we idolize Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo is directly related to the praise that Vasari pours out on them beyond measure. Starting in the study of who Vasari was, how he wrote his book and how it influenced our perception of art, we are approaching important questions about what art is, why it is so important for the human appearance and how we can interact with it.
