Historical and biographical book M.Yu. Zolotukhina talks about the outstanding policy and diplomat Otto von Bismarck, who realized the centuries -old dream of the German people about the national association, and then ruled the German Empire, providing it with an “internal foundation” - actual political, economic, legislative unity. For twenty -six years, the Iron Chancellor led the foreign policy of Prussia and the empire. Developing a strategy in the international arena, he assigned primary importance to allied relations with Russia. “Russia and Germany have no conflicting interests,” Bismarck tirelessly repeated throughout his career, and he characterized a possible, but extremely dangerous and meaningless war with the Russians as a “heavy and barren burden” for the German people.
Bismarck’s ability to win the political field caused admiration for friends and rage of enemies. The Iron Chancellor was not an infallible politician - however, which politician does not make mistakes - but he rightfully remained in the memory of generations the largest statesman of his era, whose policy had a great influence on world history.
The book proposed to the reader is the first of two dedicated to the life path and political activity of Bismarck, and brings the presentation of events to the end of the Franco-German war and the proclamation of the German Empire in 1871
