The author of this book is an outstanding Russian literary critic, doctor of philological sciences Marietta Omarovna Chudakova (1937-2021) The “Biography of Mikhail Bulgakov” saw the light in 1988 - for the first time the writer’s biography was presented in such a consistent and comprehensive presentation. Readers had the opportunity to get acquainted with archival documents, evidence of the people surrounding the writer, fragments of his diaries and letters (at that time not yet published), and most importantly - to evaluate the true scale of the personality of Bulgakov, unequiped gloss and ideological silence. Today it is difficult to even imagine what works it was worth M. O. Chudakova to collect all the actual material that we have today. Until now, this book remains the most authoritative study of Bulgakov’s biography. She was translated into other languages, but the numerous proposals of Russian publishers M.O. Chudakova refused: she hoped to prepare the processed version of the text, but did not manage to do this. Nevertheless, in this publication, copyright amendments to the text, preserved in a copy from the house of the Chudakovs, were taken into account
