The comparison of the Russian chronicler and the “Tale of Bygone Years” fully shows that the beginning of the “Tale of Bygone Years”, which tells about the dawn of Russian history, is a distorted edition of the first chapters of the Russian chronicler. This editorship was made in Kyiv in the 17th century by monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of Polish origin with a "patriotic" goal to represent the city of Kyiv as a "mother of the cities of Russians", and Polyan-Polyakov-"The best of the Slavic tribes".
