Alexander II - Russian Emperor since 1855, who went down in history as a tsar -reformer, under whose leadership a whole complex of reform was prepared and carried out: the abolition of serfdom, judicial, zemstvo, military and many other reforms, which opened the way to changes in the state and public Devices of the country. In the reign of Alexander II, the accession to Russia of the Caucasus (1864), Kazakhstan (1865), most of Central Asia (1865-1881) ended. A number of attempts were committed for the life of Alexander II (1866, 1867, 1879, 1880), killed by the People’s Volya.
The author of real fundamental work saw his task in “to collect together numerous evidence of individual moments and episodes of the life and activities of the sovereign Alexander Nikolayevich and, supplementing them with his own research, to compose an accurate and, if possible, a complete pragmatic set of events of his reign and personal participation or impact on them of the emperor in the field of politics of both internal and external ".
In the foundation for his work, the author put the materials studied by him in the state and main St. Petersburg archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the archives of the State Council, the former III branch of its own imperial majesty, in the military-scientific archive of the Main Staff.
In addition, the author had access to some archives of foreign states and private archives.
