Alexander Alekseevich Gorsky (1871-1924) - one of the leading choreographers at the beginning of the 20th century, who raised the Moscow Imperial Ballet to a new level. His life was connected with the Great Theater, where he worked for more than twenty years and where the main part of his archive is stored today. Materials collected in three sections of the book represent Gorsky - choreographer, artist, photographer. In each work directly related to the professional activity of the master, the hand of a talented artist is visible. “You are all for me as an artist to be paints ... Material, but alive, possessing reason and mind, striving up,” Gorsky turned to the ballet troupe. Most of the published documents are sketches of costumes and scenery (graphics, watercolor, gouache), photographs and photo portraits of colleagues and friends. Materials used by the choreographer are presented to study movements and subsequently working with artists - photos of dancers and scenes from performances, as well as a libretto of ballets, schemes for arranging figures and recording dances according to the system of V.I. Stepanova. For the publication, images are selected, which, as an independent source and were not published with appropriate comments earlier.
The book is of interest both for the history of the theater and for a wide audience
