The history of the Order of St. Andrew the First -Called is divided into two periods - imperial and post -Soviet. And in that and in another it remains the highest award of the state, which is awarded for outstanding merits in the field of industry, politics, culture and science. The order was restored in 1998, 300 years after its founding Peter I. The awards include: Dmitry Likhachev, Sergey Mikhalkov, Mikhail Kalashnikov, Lyudmila Zykin, Mikhail Gorbachev and Rasul Gamzatov.
