The novella "Beyond the Mists of the Great River" is inspired by the poetry of Nikolai Rubtsov. The character of the boy Vanya is a composite, but the prototype of the main hero is the poet himself, Nikolai Rubtsov, and his fate. A. K. Yekhalov's novella will help to some extent understand how in a remote village during the war years, orphans grew up to become poets of immense spiritual strength. The novella "The Cow Zemun," written based on the author's childhood impressions, is a story of the coming-of-age of three rural friends. Thanks to ancient legends about the mythical Great Village, daily close communication with nature, and understanding its laws, the souls of the main characters are imbued for life with basic moral commandments and love for their homeland.
