The mutual sympathy of Benyamin and Brecht could not but cause surprise. They were too different - or rather, there were more ideas about them. What they undoubtedly converged is that both were self -centered. True, they immediately dispersed: one was active to aggressiveness, the other with melancholy and immersed in himself. But in any case, egocentrics are not primitive, and therefore got along well. They also had a successful, mutual asymmetry: one was a poet, not devoid of an analytical view, the other analyst prone to poetry. And at the same time, both felt that fundamental changes were taking place in the world, and they, as intellectuals, are obliged to look for worthy answers to time challenges
