The subject of the literary and philosophical conversations of Boris Paramonov and Ivan Tolstoy is Russian literature, which co -authors consider in "personal" chapters. The chronological range is the twentieth century, but with a margin: from Vladimir Solovyov to Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The genre principle is the analysis of a literary figure, taken entirely, in the end of its myth. Interlocutors are interested in conceptual, psychological and stylistic issues of creativity, and their judgments least of all are academic in nature. The co -authors go to Nabokov or Pasternak through the story of their own reading of these writers, to Akhmatova and Mayakovsky - through the polemic with their critic K. Chukovsky.
