The battle on Kalka became a tragedy for southern and southwestern Russia, but for Russia north-eastern and northwest, it had no consequences. There are few people know about what happened in Russia after the battle on Kalka, since after the story about this battle, the Batu invasion usually begins in 1237. But it was an interesting era.
All this time Russia continues to fight against the aggression of the West in the Baltic states. The peak of this confrontation accounts for just the years that followed the defeat of the Russian squads in the Polovtsian steppes. In the eastern borders, the princes of North-East Russia achieved significant success in confrontation with Volga Bulgaria. Successful trips to the Bulgarians and Mordovians dramatically changed the balance of forces in the region, and the Russians had every chance to continue the victorious offensive east.
In South and Southwest Russia, after the battle on Kalka and the death of most princes, the redistribution of power began. The strife flashed one after another, the princes brought the Polovtsy, the Lyakhs, and the Hungarians to Russia. In southwestern Russia, Prince Daniil Romanovich fought for Galich both against the Chernihiv princes and against the Catholic rulers of Hungary and Poland. In South Russia, the princes came together in a fight for Kyiv, who constantly passed from hand to hand. These feuds ended only on the eve of the Batu invasion
