The Great Game - that's what politicians of past eras called the strategic confrontation between Russia and England in Central Asia in the 18th-19th centuries.
By the mid-19th century, England had reached the borders of Afghanistan, while Russia, advancing from the north, was forced to engage in battles with predatory slave-owning Central Asian khanates. Thus began the great advance of Russia in Central Asia! After that, the classic Great Game entered a period of its highest confrontation, which could have soon ended in a serious European war. The confrontation took place not only in Central Asia, but also in Europe, the Far East, and even in North America. The fifth book of the series "The Great Game" by the well-known Russian writer-historian Vladimir Shigin is dedicated to this unprecedented military-political duel of the two great powers in the 1850s-1860s.
