Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) is considered the last writer of the Victorian era. He owes his fame primarily to a series of works created between 1872 and 1895, known as the "novels of character and environment." He gained wide recognition, especially for the novel "Far from the Madding Crowd" (1874).
Proud and independent Bathsheba Everdene dreams of love. There are several suitors, but in each admirer, the girl finds a flaw - one is too proper, another is too old and boring... But soon a dashing handsome sergeant appears, and intrigue, mystery, crime, tarnished honor, and, of course, true passion take center stage. This story has been adapted into film several times.
