According to the teaching, the Fourth Way, at the origins of which stood the famous mystic George Gurdjieff, there are four states of consciousness. Each subsequent one expands a person's perceptions of the surrounding world and of themselves - from deep 'sleep' to full 'awakening', from living in illusions to a state of insightful awareness, the attainment of which in some traditions is called the opening of the 'third eye'.
The spiritual teacher Robert Earl Burton has walked this path and generously shares the knowledge he has gained.
