The monograph discusses issues related to the nature of plastic flow in solids, associated with the development of localized plastic flow. It is shown that specific patterns - patterns of localized plastic flow - are related to auto-wave modes generated in the deforming sample. The patterns of localized plasticity correlate with the stages of strain hardening identified in mechanical tests. A two-component model of localized deformation development is constructed and analyzed, taking into account the interaction between the elastic and plastic components of deformation. Within this model, mechanisms of generating auto-wave modes of localized plasticity in various materials are described. General regularities of the development of localized plastic flow at different stages of strain hardening are established. An elastic-plastic deformation invariant is introduced, establishing the relationship between the elastic and plastic properties of materials. It is shown that the main properties of deformable media are consequences of such an invariant. The book is intended for researchers studying the nature of plastic deformation in solids, engineers specializing in strength and materials science, as well as graduate students and students in relevant fields.
