Marie-Louise von Franz (1915-1998) was the author of monographs dedicated to the psychological interpretation of dreams, fairy tales, and alchemical treatises. Von Franz's interest in alchemy was inherited from her renowned teacher C.G. Jung. As von Franz herself writes, Jung turned to alchemy for the first time while searching for a language to describe the experience of delving into the unconscious. The result of this inquiry was his developed method of symbolic interpretation and understanding of traditional alchemical practices, which Jung saw as an attempt to express the unconscious content of our psyche. Following the trend set by Jung, von Franz undertakes the ambitious task of psychologically interpreting an anonymous medieval treatise 'Aurora Consurgens', attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas. This book will be useful to all interested in psychology and philosophy, as well as a wide range of readers.
