Elizaveta Nikolaevna Kondrashova (1836-1887), who began to write already in adulthood, went down in the history of literature as the author of the novel "Children of the Solstice" (1887) It recreated a picture of the life of the pupils of the Pavlovsk Institute of Noble Maidens, one of the most famous female educational institutions of pre -revolutionary Russia. Elizaveta Nikolaevna herself studied at this institute from 1843 to 1848, but the action of the story was classified as an earlier time - to the 1820s. Creative fiction is intertwined in the book with personal impressions and memories of the writer about her hard childhood.
At one time, the story gained extraordinary popularity: it was not only a table book by a young lady in many noble houses, but also repeatedly mentioned in other literary works for children.
