The Russian romantic story can rightfully be considered the beginning of Russian modern literature. She became the first discovery of the capabilities and wealth of the native Russian language made by the best representatives of the "franchoye -speaking" nobility of the 19th century.
The genre of a romantic story lived only thirty years. But its significance in the history of Russian literature is so great that everything subsequent without it becomes inexplicable. Many threads stretch from the works of V. Bryusov, E. Zamyatin, A. Chayanov, M. Bulgakov into the past - to the prose of A. Veltman, V. Odoevsky, M. Pogodin and many other writers of those years.
