Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol began to work on this comedy, under the working title of "grooms", and in May 1835 he read several excerpts from it by the historian and writer Mikhail Pogodin. The place of its action was chosen, and the main characters and the storyline were already outlined. Around the same time, the comedy of the "absolutely incredible event" received the final version of the name - "Marriage", and Petersburg became the scene. In the early autumn of 1835, N.V. Gogol intended to give the play to the theater, but soon, for completely absorbing him the "auditor", he completely forgot about it. He completed the play in two actions "marriage" in 1841, being abroad, to publish the collection of his works. Today, the "Marriage" is included in the Golden Fund not only of the classical Russian, but also in world dramaturgy. Her sharp humor is not outdated: it is not subject to time.
