Nikolai Stepanovich Gumilyov is an outstanding Russian poet, a bright representative of the Silver Age of Russian literature. He founded a poetic school of acmeism, actively acted as a literary critic and translator. His first wife was the famous Anna Akhmatova, and their son was widely known - Lev Nikolaevich Gumilyov, an ethnologist, creator of passionate theory of ethnogenesis.
Being a passionate researcher of unknown places and a passionate hunter, Nikolai Gumilyov traveled a lot, participated in ethnographic expeditions to Africa. When the First World War began, the poet signed up in the army as a volunteer, served in cavalry, participated in hostilities, was repeatedly awarded. The nobleman, officer, Gumilyov did not emigrate from Soviet Russia. But he did not hide his political and religious views and in 1921 was arrested on suspicion of participation in the conspiracy - as part of an underground combat organization. Historians still argue about Gumilyov’s involvement in the conspiracy. There is a version that the case fabricated the Cheka. One way or another, but three weeks after the arrest, Nikolai Gumilyov was shot. Rehabilitated it only in 1992.
