Prosper Merima (1803-1870) - French writer and translator, historian, ethnographer and archaeologist. In Russia, it gained fame thanks to its brilliant short stories. In this audiobook, two of his novels are represented. "Illsky Venus" wrote under the impression of trips to French provinces as an inspector of historical monuments. This short story is based on an ominous mystical legend about the reviving statue of the insidious goddess of love. The short story of the "soul of purgatory" is an author’s interpretation of the plot about the famous Don Juan. Here the main character does not appear in a romantic halo. Before us is a sinner who is trying to avoid reckoning for his sins, turning into the bosom of the church.
