The history of European painting can be studied by its masterpieces - works that have been included in the Golden Fund of World Culture and have had a huge impact on spectators, critics and other artists for centuries. To decipher the plot of the picture, to discern curious details, to learn more about its history and the fate of its creator will help "History of painting in masterpieces", a project created by the employees of the Faculty of History of Art of the Russian State University. The second volume includes the works of masters of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Its sections are devoted to both individual directions: baroque, classicism, rococo and neoclassicism, and genres: portrait, landscape, still life. Each section opens with a thematic article and consists of a number of illustrated tales-descriptions devoted to specific works. In total, more than 1000 illustrations, a detailed description of 140 paintings by 70 artists. The publication is designed for the widest circle of readers, from art lovers to art students and culturalists.
