The word "miniature" comes from the Latin minium (red paint used in the design of manuscript books) With its roots, the art of miniature goes into ancient times. Everywhere where books exist, there is an art of book illustration. Book miniature is not just an addition to the text, it turns the manuscript into a single verbal -visual space. The illuminated manuscripts had a significant impact on other types of art: Byzantine and Western early medieval miniatures, transferring compositional and iconographic solutions from manuscript to manuscript, played a huge role in the appearance of Romanesque sculpture. In Muslim and Jewish art, only in miniature it was possible a figurative image of man - thereby its cultural value becomes immeasurably high for us. More than 2500 images are presented on this disk: the ancient Egyptian, Western European (V-XVI centuries), Byzantine (IX-XVI centuries), Armenian (X-XVII centuries), Muslim (VI-XIX centuries) and Jewish (X- XIX centuries) miniature. Applications "Christian East" and "India, China and the Far East" make it possible to familiarize themselves with some samples of miniature of these regions.
