The story "Olesya" (1898) is a sad love story of a young master, a novice writer, and the young granddaughter of a Polesie healer, expelled from the village to the forest for "witchcraft". The lovers separated all the same ignorance of scored, uneducated, entangled by superstitions of the villagers. In the hero’s hut, abandoned by "Witches", only the “thread of cheap red beads, known in Polesie called“ Coral ”, is the only thing that remained me in memory of Olesya and her delicate, generous love.”
"Miraculous Doctor" (1897) - "Holy Story", founded, nevertheless, on real events. Poor people fell into a hopeless position: the father of the family lost work after a long illness, there is no money, the children are starving and getting sick ... But the "wonderful doctor" appears - and life is getting better. This creator of the miracle is the famous surgeon, professor Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov
