Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov (1812–1891) is an outstanding Russian writer and literary critic. Corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in the category of Russian language and literature, actual state adviser. The main character of the most famous novel Goncharov is a young landowner, a hereditary nobleman Ilya Ilyich Oblomov. He is smart and well educated. He, a resident of the capital, has all the makings for successful promotion, for literary activity. But neither a career, nor secular successes, nor writing attract him. He spends most of the day lying on the couch. The exact opposite of Oblomov is a friend of his childhood Andrei Stolz, an energetic and successful entrepreneur. He is trying to stir Ilya. But the world of industrialists, where Oblomova is trying to introduce Stolz, is deeply alien to Ilya Ilyich. He considers a violent activity aimed at obtaining personal benefits. The type of national character, embodied in the image of Oblomov, has not gone anywhere. No wonder the word "Oblomovshchina" has become a common house for centuries to indicate the inertia of society. Being one of the vertical achievements of Russian prose of the 19th century, the novel "Oblomov" is a textbook. Its study is provided for by the school program in literature.
