Everyone is familiar with magical narratives about Cinderella, sleeping beauty and cat in boots, but few people know that these stories are taken in the collection "Tale of Tales". He was composed of the Neapolitan court poet Cavalier Giovan Battista (or Jambattist) Basile (1566-1632) The collection was not intended for printing, after the death of the author it was discovered among its manuscripts and published by five volumes in 1634-1636. In Naples, under the pseudonym, Jan Aleessio Abbatitis. Subsequently, this book, translated into a number of European languages, had a great influence on the work of Charles Perrault, brothers Grimm, Clemens Brentano, thanks to which the plots of Neapolitan fairy tales became known to the Russian reader. Their echoes are distinguishable in the "Tale of King Saltan" A. S. Pushkin, and in the "Humpbacked Horse" P.P. Ershov, and even in the Ural Tales" P.P. Bazhov. The subtitle of the collection "Fun for small guys" should not be understood literally: the book is undoubtedly designed for an adult reader. In these fairy tales, as in their literary processing, known to us from children"s classics, eternal human values are affirmed, but the adventures of heroes and their dialogs are presented without embellishment, vividly and rudely. The colorful, juicy language of Neapolitan fairy tales, with many words and expressions that are not accepted in secular salons, will not leave anyone indifferent. Their lexical and phraseological wealth was carefully preserved in their translation by Peter Epifanov. We offer everyone who has already come out of childhood to listen to magical stories for adults in the brilliant performance of masters of the artistic word.
