The studio Ardis offers adult students an audiobook “Monica Lerbier”-the novel by the French writer Viktor Marger, who was published in Russian also under the names “Free Woman”, “Bachelor” and “Woman Kholostyak”.
Having learned about her husband’s betrayal, a desperate young Parisian from high society decides to start the life of a “free woman” and indulges in vices and gloomy pleasures, essentially completely alien to her spiritual warehouse.
After the release in France in 1922, Monica Lerbier caused a real shock in society. The book was a deafening success and at the same time caused a wave of indignation of the well -being. The “unworthy novel” was accused of insulting public morality, slander and pornography, as a result of which its author was excluded from the list of gentlemen of the Order of the Honorary Legion.
