Ivan Antonovich (Antipovich) Efremov (1908–1972) is an outstanding Russian Soviet fantast, a paleontologist, creator of taphonomy (scientific discipline, which explains how and why the remains of extinct animals and plants are preserved), philosopher-cosmist and social thinker. Since the mid-1920s, his life has been held on expeditions, in many bringing valuable finds and discoveries.
The collection compiled adventure stories with elements of science fiction, the action of which is attributed to the times of the Great Patriotic War. The sailors of the Soviet warship, bored with the Germans, make a daring landing on the territory surrounded by the enemy and an equally risky escape from the environment. A military pilot transports a valuable secret cargo through the Atlantic, but, being shot down by enemy fighters, lands on a lost island, where he opens an amazing tree, whose healing properties used, according to legend, still medieval monks. Major artilleryman, before the war, a geologist, from the hospital was sent on vacation to the resort-for rehabilitation after injury, but on the road he gets acquainted with the charming assistant of an archaeologist and is called up to work on excavations, where he solves the secret of the ancient observatory. As always, Efremov’s, the heroes of stories - romance and researchers - do not graze difficulties and try to find a way out of the most difficult situations. Listen to these fascinating and cognitive stories!
