For the first time, the Back in the USSR was published in 1987 in England. In subsequent years, it was released in the USA, Japan and several European countries. And only twenty years later, the book of “The true history of rock in Russia” was published in Russia ago in the USSR. This book is not encyclopedic and not even analytical. Almost everything that is described in it is based on the personal experience of those who made the history of Soviet rock. This book is not just a bright and lively report on the hardships and trials of Russian musicians of the 80s of the last century, it is also a story about a hitherto not described by a social revolution, reflected through the prism of rock music. "Quadro", "Avia", "Picnic" - for the new generation, these rock bands, as well as the names of Alexei Kozlov, Alexander Gradsky or Zhanna Aguzarova, mean practically nothing. And the groups "Time Machine" or "Bravo" are perceived as the "orchestra of Utesov" from the 70s. But some twenty to thirty years ago they were idols of millions. Rock was a religion for them, a cry of freedom and a weapon of resistance. Rock was pursued by the authorities - it was dangerous. The rock was not sold - it was disinterested. For twenty years, our country has changed unrecognizably. New music also became different: the music of the initially free people, and not people who are desperately trying to affirm their freedom.
