At the walls of Smolensk

The city of Smolensk has long been playing in the military history of Russia a special role, the first to accept the strike of the aggressors, striving to seize Moscow. From July 10 to September 10, 1941, a Smolensk battle was launched at the walls of the city, in which during the two months of the Red Army, they managed to fight invalid to the German Wehrmacht. From August 7 to October 2, the troops of the Kalininsky and Western fronts conducted a strategic offensive operation & quot, Suvorov & quot ,, liberated the Smolensk and part of the Kalinin regions, the city of Yelny, Prodina, Roslavl, Smolensk and entered the limits of Belarus. Residents of the city during severe trials showed themselves with real patriots of their homeland, so now Smolensk with honor bears the high title of the city of Hero
