More than a hundred years have passed since Maxim Gorky created the play "The Lower Depths," yet its characters have not disappeared and are still recognizable: the homeless, thieves, prostitutes - society's rejects from the "bottom" - as if they have moved through time, not losing their problems, from Gorky's den to the streets of a modern metropolis. The question of the necessity of choosing one's position remains just as relevant: "A man - that sounds proud!" or "A man should be pitied"? What to choose - a lie for salvation or bitter truth?
