Albert Karelsky (1936-1993) is the largest translator, an outstanding Germanist, a talented teacher, an amazingly gifted person. A unique professional erudition, deep knowledge of his subject and personal, invisible, but definitely existing in a connection with the author he translated, to whose work he touched, some solidarity and sympathy with him, was always guessed behind artistry and seeming ease.
