The publication was prepared for the exhibition (February 6 - April 8, 2018), which presented about 150 works of one of the inventors of the photograph, the Englishman U.G. F. Talbot (1800–1877), from the meetings of two British museums - the National Museum of Science and Media In Bradford and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In addition to copyright prints and negatives made by Talbot in different years (including from the album “Sunny Pictures of Scotland”), the edition for the first time in Russian published the album “Pencil of Nature”, published in 1844. It was in him, in the comments on the pictures, Talbot first described his discovery (negative-positive photographic process) and spoke about the possibilities of photography as a way to obtain replicated images
