Boris Stepanovich Zhitkov (1882-1938) is a famous children"s writer, teacher, traveler and researcher. Born in Veliky Novgorod in the family of a teacher of mathematics and pianists. The future writer spent his childhood in Odessa, in the gymnasium years became friends with K.I. Chukovsky. After graduating from the Imperial Novorossiysk University (1906), B.S. Zhitkov goes to his first voyage. Over the years of maritime service, he was lucky enough to become a participant in a trip around the world.
In 1923 B.S. Zhitkov moved to Petrograd. He often visited his school comrade Korney Chukovsky. The writer’s children were delighted with stories about the sea and travel, and Korney Ivanovich invited Zhitkov to transfer these stories to paper. So, with the light hand of Chukovsky, the career of Zhitkov-writer began. In 1924, his first book "Evil Sea" was published. The writer"s work more and more fascinated B.S.
