The book examines the story of one of the most elite and famous military formations of the army of the Byzantine Empire - the Varangian Guard (Varangi).
The history of the creation and structure of the Varangian Guard, the specifics of its completion, training, equipment and weapons have been studied. The features of the combat tactics of the guards formation and the main milestones of its centuries -old combat path and internal service are analyzed.
Particular attention is paid to famous people who at different times serving in the ranks of the guards, as well as the Russians that were part of the guard.
Varanga is characterized as a universal military formation of increased reliability.
The civilizational significance of the Varangian Guard is also noted - its warriors were a cultural and religious connecting link between the peoples of Northern and Eastern Europe with the Byzantine empire - perceiving the high achievements of the empire in material and spiritual culture, being the bearers of the Byzantine lifestyle and Christian values.
