Russian textile avant-garde of the 1920-1930s is a multifaceted phenomenon. This is an alloy of experimental abstractionism, laws of combinatorics of folk ornament, the functionality of Russian constructivism and fashion trends of the early twentieth century. We invite the reader to look at the clothes and fabrics of the avant-garde through the eyes of design artists, representatives of the school of textile design of the revolutionary era, including a brief but bright period of agittekstil. It was this period that summed up numerous discussions about the styles, technologies and role of the artist-manufacturer in the "Perestroika of Life".
"The avant -garde fabric" is a book completely dedicated to the design of textiles at the beginning of the 20th century. There are no publications of this volume and quality of study of the material devoted to the topic of the avant -garde in textile art.
The book is divided into two parts: popular science and illustrative. An extensive collection of scientifically attribute samples of a textile ornament represents fabrics in a natural scale of 1: 1. The reader will see many of them for the first time. The album of this volume has not been previously published.
"Russian textile avant -garde" is located on a par with such terms as "Architectural avant -garde", "Photo Vanguard", "Theater Vanguard". In each of these areas, the energy of avant -garde has found its own, unique embodiment. But if other "avant-gardens" are already described and studied to some extent, then innovation in the field of textile design is just beginning to be aware.
A special place in the book is assigned a new role of constructivist fabric design: this is not a separate phenomenon, but one of the most important style -forming factors in the development of art, from which the international style originates. The reader will easily discover the leading role of avant -garde geometry not only in the construction of the ornament, but also in the development of the entire system of expressive means of art of the 20th century.
The book represents such iconic figures of avant -garde as Lyubov Popova, Varvara Stepanova, Nadezhda Udaltsova, Lyudmila Mayakovskaya, Alexander Exterm ...
It was they who developed tissue sketches for the famous three -rose, "Red Rosa" and the first sitting factory in Moscow. Created sketches for the fabric of the Suprematic ornamentation and Kazimir Malevich. Mayakovskaya, Stepanova and Popova taught in VKhUTEMAS, where the Faculty of Textile was first opened. Sketches and cut costumes created by Alexandra Exter for the Red Niva magazine are now very relevant, and are interesting not only from the point of view of the history of the costume. The book presents sketches and reconstruction of costumes, samples of fabrics and accessories
