The monograph analyzes the role of ruins in modern cities in terms of their semantic filling, recognition by historical evidence and value, as well as the possibilities that they keep in themselves. The author of the book of Eliza Pilia offers readers a review of historical and modern approaches to the study of the topic of urban ruins, especially highlighting the British and Italian approaches, and then puts forward the methodology for researching objects that are of strategic importance and offers ideas regarding the use of their potential for the careful transformation of historical regions of cities. These proposals are implemented in the historical center of Caglia, the port city on the southern coast of the island of Sardinia (Italy), where the destroyed buildings left by bombing of the time of the Second World War are still the subject of disputes about how today should be treated with ruins.
