The book includes the most famous works of the playwright, publicist, translator and creator of Russian household comedy D.I. Fonvizina.
The heroes of the comedy Undergrowth are representatives of different social layers: nobles, landowners, servants, self -proclaimed fashion teachers. The main characters: Mitrofanushka and his mother, Madame Prostakova, who runs both servants and her own husband. The name Undergrowth is associated with the decree of Peter I, who forbade unaccounted nobles to serve and marry, calling such young people undergrowths. Thanks to the vivid images of characters, the livelihood of dialogues, the current issue, the play has gained immense popularity among contemporaries, and quotes from it have become proverbs.
